Noah and the Whale - L.I.F.E.G.O.E.S.O.N.

Here’s a cute new ditty from Noah & the Whale. I’ll warn you right now, expect this song to fully embed itself in your mind. It’s horribly catchy!

Ball Park Music - Rich People Are Stupid

Ball Park Music is one of those bands from whom I’ve not heard a single bad song. Mind you, I’ve only heard three, but three-for-three is a damn good record! “Rich People are Stupid” is the latest single from the Aussie indie pop group and it’s a corker of a tune that will prove itself more than capable of getting stuck in your head and refusing to leave!

Triptides - Shadows

Wow, to think that this fuzzy surf-rock sound could come out of Indiana! There are definitely some Tame Impala comparisons to be made, but Triptides definitely stand on their own. Keeping my bud yvynyl’s commentary below because it’s sooo true!

yvynyl:

Triptides - Shadows

My buds at Beach Tapes selected these land-locked Bloomington, Indiana indie pop boys for their latest release.  The Tropical Dreams EP provides a romantic soundtrack for dreaming that you live in Hawaii and get to surf for your day job.

The work they do reminds me of Tame Impala - that is to say you should really grab onto this set of songs with both hands and not let go.  Cassettes are limited to 100 and they come with the download - go get ‘em.

Sparkadia - This Boy’s in Love (Presets Cover)

This was the song that got me hooked on cover versions! Taking a powerful, intense electronica track from The Presets and stripping it down to some awesome guitar work. Just…yes. This song. Right now.

Justice - Civilization

A little electronica to drown out your week on a Friday afternoon? Sure, why not? I dunno about the rest of you, but I get to trek back to the east bay via CalTrain and then BART just as everyone’s headed to the Season Opener for the Oakland A’s. Gonna have to turn it up loud!

Katy B - Lights On

She’s out of the UK and does some pretty good electronica. Bit of a throwback, for me, to the early 90s when it was all synths with some gal’s vocals over it. But “Lights On” manages to capture my ear and not let go the whole time it’s on.

Art vs Science - A.I.M. Fire!

Okay, one last AvS spam before the weekend starts, I promise! This is one of my fave tracks off The Experiment. Give it a spin, turn it up loud, and celebrate the fact it’s Friday!

tUnE-yArDs - Riotriot

It’s hard as a Bay Area native to think that music like this could come out of Oakland. Yes, I come packaged with all the pre-conceived notions about Oakland, Raiders fan, and the whole kit-n-kaboodle!

So enter Tune-Yards (sorry, I have to write it that way, it’s a problem I suffer from) who has a much much more mellowed out ambient sound. It’s really challenging what I think of when it comes to music from that part of the Bay.
